The Echo and Vascular Sonographer (Cardiovascular Sonographer) is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic echocardiograms and vascular ultrasounds. This role supports cardiologists and vascular specialists by providing accurate imaging and preliminary findings and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
Requirements
Echocardiography Duties
Perform 2D, M-mode, Doppler, and color flow echocardiography studies.
Conduct specialized exams such as stress echocardiograms, contrast studies, and transesophageal echo (TEE) assistance, depending on facility requirements.
Capture diagnostic images following established protocols and physician orders.
Recognize abnormal findings and communicate urgent results to the appropriate provider.
Vascular Ultrasound Duties
Conduct non-invasive vascular studies, including carotid duplex, venous duplex (DVT studies, venous insufficiency), arterial duplex, ABI/PVR testing, and aortic/IVC exams.
Evaluate vascular flow patterns and document hemodynamic data, identify critical vascular abnormalities, and follow protocol for escalation.
General Responsibilities
Explain procedures and ensure patient comfort and safety. Maintain and operate ultrasound equipment; report technical issues promptly. Accurately document findings and upload images into PACS or EMR systems.
Follow infection control, patient privacy, and safety protocols. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff. Participate in continuing education to maintain certifications and stay current with technological advancements.
Qualifications/ Credentials
Education/Certification: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography .
Credentials: ARDMS (RDCS for Echo, RVT for Vascular) or CCI (RCS for Echo, RVS for Vascular)
Skills & Competencies
Proficiency in cardiac and vascular ultrasound techniques. Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy and pathology. Ability to produce high-quality images under minimal supervision. Excellent communication and patient-care skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
